500 Anniversary of the Reformation

Мартин Лютер прибивает свои тезисы к двери католической церквиWe have a wonderful reason to celebrate a great event in history of humanity.

On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther, a German monk, nailed the 95 theses on a church door in the university town of Wittenberg. By doing this he set the Church Reformation in motion.

During the Reformation five Latin statements emerged that summarize the Reformers’ theological convictions about the essentials of Christianity:

  1. Sola Scriptura (“Scripture alone”): The Bible alone is our highest authority.
  2. Sola Fide (“faith alone”): We are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
  3. Sola Gratia (“grace alone”): We are saved by the grace of God alone.
  4. Solus Christus (“Christ alone”): Jesus Christ alone is our Lord, Savior, Mediator between God and man, and King.
  5. Soli Deo Gloria (“to the glory of God alone”): We live for the glory of God alone.

The reformers formulated ethical principles and have set new models of behavior. Because of that positive social, educational, cultural, political and economic transformations became possible. Thus, Reformation not only transformed the Church, in many respects it shaped the world in which we live in.

Happy Anniversary!
