Did Jesus Spend 72 Hours In the Grave?

KJV Matthew 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Have you ever puzzled over these words of Jesus Christ? He prophesied that He would spend in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights. He was crucified and buried on Friday: “Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold your King!”” (NKJV John 19:14). He rested in the tomb on Saturday and early the first day of the week [our Saturday night after sundown or early Sunday morning] raised from the dead: “Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.” (KJV Mark 16:9). It makes three days (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) and two nights (from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday) in modern reckoning. It is not three complete 24 hour periods, which we often call “days”. How could that be? Jesus could not have made mistakes. How should we understand His words from the Gospel of Matthew?

by Richard and Tatyana Noel

Today we present some biblical information for your consideration that will immensely help in understanding this issue.

I (Tatyana) was concerned about this matter, prayed and asked the Lord to help me to understand the chronology. He answered my prayer and gave me a revelation when my husband and I were reading the book of Acts, chapter 10. In this chapter it talks how the Apostle Peter saw a vision. As a result of this vision he started from Joppa to Caesarea to the house of Roman centurion Cornelius to proclaim the good news for him. To get the entire story read the whole chapter from your Bible. I will focus on the timing parts of it.

In this chapter the Lord drew my attention to the sequence of events and the number of days they took.

Acts 10:1-3 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, 2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway. 3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.

So, Cornelius saw an angel about the ninth hour. Though in the chapter it does not say what day of the week it was, for for the purpose of illustration we will consider it Monday. So, the events start on Monday at 9 o’clock.

4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God. 5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter: 6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do. 7 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually; 8 And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.

The same day (Monday) Cornelius sends his servants to Joppa to bring the Apostle Peter to his house.

9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:

The next day, i.e. Tuesday Peter was praying about the sixth hour. Continue reading Did Jesus Spend 72 Hours In the Grave?

Building Individuals a Key To Moral Authority In Society

A moral imperative in society implies that its citizens are truthful and honest. This article focuses on universality of truth as found in the Bible. Early Christians were effective because of truth and love from above and in themselves. Developing individual integrity in agreement with the Creator is essential condition to provide the people with a moral imperative, power and prosperity.

Richard Noel

1        The Problem: With all the disputes between church organizations, how can religions provide a moral imperative for a developing society?

2        To my knowledge current research has not attempted to analyze this issue.

3        Goal of this paper: to show religion a way to provide a moral imperative.Ричард Ноэль

This subject is so broad, I will attempt to focus our minds on the real issues as I see them.

First, our biggest obstacle is reaching an understanding of “Truth”. Philosophers argue from many directions about truth. We need to identify truth outside ourselves in order to make sense of the real questions we face. Those questions are: 1) who am I? 2) where did I come from? 3) where am I headed? and 4) what can I do about it? For more on this see the book Can Man Live Without God by Ravi Zacharias [1].

In my study, I have found reliable, verifiable answers to those real questions of life in the Bible. I have found no other source that even comes close to answering the fundamental questions of life much less giving real guidance on what you and I should do. Without a clear reliable basis for “truth” there is no basis for developing any society or social group that will last.

The Bible makes claims of truth that are reasonable and reliable both internally and existentially. History supports the power of the Bible in the early Christians as well as in the time of kings David and Solomon. I have experienced the power of God in my own life. I have received divine healing as well as direct instruction by the Holy Spirit.

The unstable behavior of many professing “Christians” leads some to discount Jesus Christ as a viable source of truth and power to live. “What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness?” (NIV Romans 3:3).

Positive results in my life and in other believers brings courage to all who see the Bible in action. Just a short time ago we saw God of Heaven heal 4th stage cancer, deafness and an ovarian cyst in people in Ukraine.

Doubters merely show us how humans are willing to distort truth and to seek rule over others. However, truth can be demonstrated empirically and observed logically. Truth is a fact or reality outside of ourselves and above ourselves. Here is Webster’s dictionary definition of truth:

(1) the state of being the case: FACT

(2) the body of real things, events, and facts: ACTUALITY

(3) a) transcendent fundamental or spiritual reality,

b) a judgment, proposition, or idea that is true or accepted as true,

c) the body of true statements and propositions.

Currently our societies are being destroyed by people who believe it is to their advantage to function in a dishonest way. They do not trust others yet they expect others to trust them. Do you see a problem in such thinking?

As we seek to see our society transformed for the better, we must recognize that we need a truthful authority to follow. I grew up in a Christian denomination. It gave a sense of belonging and authority to my life. Later in life, I realized that my denomination wasn’t what it claimed any more. This led to much heart searching. I allowed my Heavenly Father to teach me by His Word and He has led me to this time.

When religious institutions follow atheistic human ways of doing things they become merely human institutions with all the weaknesses of human diversity and evil. Then they are no longer a source of moral imperatives and cannot effectively transform society to a better condition.

My proposals may sound like parts of things you have heard from many sources. The truth often seems stranger than fiction because fiction is designed to be plausible.

People are often deceived when they face very large obstacles. History is littered with semi-gods such as Hitler and Stalin. The religious leaders discovered only in retrospect that Hitler was different than they thought. Why did these people fail to see the problem? That is the focus of this paper.

Some months after the Orange Revolution my father-in-law asked, “What to you think of it?” I said I was glad the people were taking more responsibility. Then I warned him against copying the American way of government because it would not work in Ukraine. Ukraine has a different history. It needs to find solutions that acknowledge their history and look for better ways to do things.

The Bible tells that God confused the languages to keep the people from uniting for an evil purpose. Today people are trying to create a “one world government” or “new world order”. It is doomed to failure, because they do not have a common language or common understanding. The current wars between peoples of different religions demonstrate the hopelessness of man-made solutions. We need divine intervention to have effective social integration.

Would you go to a doctor for help if you knew he had only treated six patients in his life and only one of them showed signs of improvement? Obviously not. That famous doctor was Sigmund Freud. Yet millions are trying to use psychoanalysis or its derivations for a solution to their mental problems.

Jesus healed everyone who came to Him.

Modern medicine has failed miserably to heal at least one disease or to heal even one patient. Modern psychiatry is even less able to solve people’s problems because it is based on atheistic position.

I wondered much about these things before I spent years in Bible study and meditation. Today I am full of hope because I have seen and received the power of God in my own life.

The reason early Christian believers were so effective, was not their organizations or their superb intellectual skills. It was their love for others. “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus” (KJV Acts 4:13). The disciples’ love surpassed the worldly love because they were led by God.

Being led means submitting to the leader. This sounds radical, but it works. The most powerful and effective armies are armies that follow their leaders. When those leaders become suspect, they lose their credibility and followers.

Moral imperative is found in developing complete honesty in each individual. I use an English word integrity to describe honesty that permeates every part of a person. When honesty/integrity is missing in one area of your life you will have moral and intellectual dissonance. Dissonance, if not resolved, leads to mental disturbance.

When Greeks developed Democracy, they assumed that the citizens had integrity. Democracy works only if the majority has integrity. History shows democracy to be a failure in most cases. Other man-made ideas of government fail because of lack of honesty in people.

Integrity is more than just telling the truth. It means at your most basic level you are totally honest with yourself and others. If I conceal what I really want or mean, I am not honest.

In order to arrive to the level of honesty the Creator wants in us, we need to repent of wrongs and let Him change us. Recently a lady came to a meeting in Ukraine and asked for help. She was afraid of her grown son. He would come home drunk and beat her. She admitted her complaining to him had not brought any change in him. My associate instructed her to repent of her harshness to her son and to ask him for forgiveness. She walked home praying her confession to God. She was amazed to find her son home and totally sober. When she apologized to him he broke down crying. Their family is now restored by the power of God of Israel.

At all levels, if we want to see society develop in a healthy way, we must find ways to develop personal integrity.

Foundations. Richard Noel

I live in a brick house that was built in 1946. As I examined it I found cracks in the brick walls. Those cracks showed me where the foundation had shifted over time. This shifting was still happening until I stopped water from reaching the foundation. Some years ago I inspected a brick church building that was built in 1922. I could not find a single crack in that large building. I spoke about the absence of cracks to one of the people who had been there when it was built. He told me that the building was built on bedrock. Jesus spoke about the need to have a secure strong foundation in what we believe.

Luk 6:47-49 KJV 47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

KJV Psalm 11:3 If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

Properly built foundations are impossible to destroy without extreme efforts. God never makes mistakes. Abraham understood this.

KJV Hebrews 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

KJV John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Jesus is the source of truth and He has not changed. It is time for us truly trust and obey His word.

Eternal Life

I constantly hear people saying things which don’t make sense when held up together.

They will say someone is dead and then say he is in heaven or in hell. I find this type of statements to appear totally contradictory or at least confusing.

IF the wages of sin is DEATH, then how can sinners be alive after they die?

IF the gift of God is LIFE, how or why do the wicked get to be immortal as well?

Am I as confused as everyone else?

I hope the following Bible verses will help to clarify the situation and eliminate the mass of confusion we hear every day.

I believe: God is Light and without HIM there is no light at all

KJV 1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

1 John 2:25 KJV And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

God is immortal.

1 Timothy 1:17 KJV: Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

KJV 1 Timothy 6:16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

We seek immortality and eternal life.

KJV Romans 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

KJV 2 Timothy 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

1 Cor 15:53-54 KJV: 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

in the world to come.

KJV Mark 10:30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.

Without eternal life we will perish.

KJV John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

Joh 5:39-40 KJV Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

Eternal life comes to believers at the resurrection.

I was listening to an interview with a prominent person recently. The interviewer asked a very valuable question. The even more valuable answer was a statement about the current thinking in America.

The answer was that our income tax is based on the idea that we are owned by our government. Therefore, the government has the right to tell us how much of the money we earn we are allowed to keep.

I will now take you back to the time of the American Civil War. European bankers offered to loan money to the USA to fight the war. President Lincoln wisely refused their offer. The Bankers circulated among themselves what is know as the “hazard letter”. That letter asserted that the American system must not be allowed to stand. In slavery the owner is responsible to house, clothe and feed his slaves. They asserted that their system (economic slavery) was better because it required the slave to provide for himself.

The answer pointed out a very vital Bible Principle.

KJV 1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not … ye are not your own?

If I am not my own, then who owns me? If you don’t know about yourself, then this is your opportunity to find out just who owns you?

The idea of ownership applies to: 1) husbands and wives, 2) parents and children as well as 3) slaves and slave owners. These comparisons are used frequently in the Bible to describe the relations between; 1) unbelievers and Satan, and 2) believers and God.

God tells us to be sure who owns us.

NET 2 Corinthians 13:5 Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you– unless, indeed, you fail the test!

How do you know whether or not Jesus Christ is in you?

1) Did you receive Him as your Savior?

NAS John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,

2) Is He still living in you? Are you exercising the right?

KJV Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

3) What evidence is there that He is living in you?

(Mar 16:17-18 KJV)17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

(Joh 15:4-11 KJV)4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

KJV John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

(Rom 6:12-14 KJV)
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

(Rom 6:16 KJV)16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

KJV Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

О субботе – About the Sabbath

Applying The Scientific Method In Sociology

Richard Noel

The Scientific Method requires: 1) an hypothesis, 2) experimentation to test it; 3) reevaluation and adjustment of the hypothesis; 4) new experimentation and evaluation. This process goes on indefinitely in the evolutionary model.

Here is an example of a danger in discovering new things. Chemist Dan Shechtman in 1984 published his findings on “quasi-crystals”. The result, ostracism by many colleagues. In 2011 his discovery won him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Lenin followed ideas of evolution to promote communism and socialism which failed to improve society. The main reason was because he had no way to solve the problem of selfishness.

We need a new look, a moral imperative that is greater than ourselves. Then we will be able to change ourselves. If our circumstances are to be changed, it will be the result our internal changes.

The Israel of God

Who is Israel?

Ignorance of the Bible is a serious problem today.  Most people do not even take their Bibles to church.  The rest of them seldom diligently study what the Bible teaches so that they can cooperate with God.  In fact, most of them don’t even know the basic facts of the Bible and Christianity.

I have to apologize for my colleagues in ministry because they are simply repeating what they were taught in school without ever checking the facts in the Bible.

I made the same ignorant errors for years before I began to seriously study the Bible to learn from God what He said and wants us to do.  If we don’t wake up and begin to do diligent study of the Word of God we risk being thrown in the lake of fire at the final judgment.

February 26, 2011. Topic “The Israel of God”. Who is modern Israel?

Many of us just depend on what our religious leaders say and go on as if we were not responsible to know the Word of God.  Jesus clearly rejected that idea in his Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew 5 thru 7.

(Mat 7:21-29 KJV)21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.  22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:  25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:  27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: 29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Jesus said it.  So,… Don’t get mad at me for telling you what the Bible says.  Jesus will not ask you what your preacher taught you.  Your actions will be clear enough.  Not even I can blame being lost on someone else misleading me.

Today I bring you a hard message, but it could be the saving of your soul.

There is only one God and He is not me. Jesus gave us one key rule for salvation.

(Joh 6:26-29 KJV)26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.

27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

What is the evidence of our belief?

We just read in Matthew 7:23 that it is our “works” or behavior.

This is confirmed in James.

(Jam 2:19-20 KJV)19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

I will let you look up on your own the other witnesses to this fact of salvation.

Now to our subject of the message. Exactly who are the “Israel of God”??

by Richard Noel

(Gal 6:16 KJV)16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

My Sinful Soul

In the religious world it is common to hear someone describe himself as having a “sinful soul”.  As I heard this recently, “I’m just a sinner saved by grace”. If you are a sinner, what were you saved from? I decided to look up the way the Bible uses such expressions.  We will read all of the references to “sinful soul”.  I could find and see what God has to tell us.  I wanted to find out if any such people could look forward to living with God.

Num 32:13-14 KJV 13 And the LORD’S anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed. 14 And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers’ stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.

KJV  Isaiah 1:4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.

Do you see much hope in there? They are in such condition, that no condition for heaven.

KJV  Amos 9:8 Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD.

Not very bright picture for sinful souls either.

KJV  Mark 8:38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

He is not going to welcome them into heaven.

Luk 5:6-10 KJV And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.  7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

There will be no sinners in heaven. Peter recognizes it. The Lord has done a marvelous thing, and Peter is in fact saying, “I am a sinful man. Don’t get too close to me. I might explode”. When the power of God comes close to sin it burns it up. Why Peter had such respond?

Flesh and Blood: the Problem and the Solution

Flesh and Blood of the Word. From FlickrI have always puzzled over the language used by the Apostle Paul in describing the Christian life. My problem came in reading 1 Corinthians 15:50. The language seems so strange.

NAU 1 Corinthians 15:50: “Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.”

In English a dead person cannot inherit anything.  Actually the dead persons property is inherited by those still alive.  In both Greek (NT) and Hebrew (OT) the word translated “inherit” frequently simply means “possess”.  By understanding the Bible language we can restate the text to “flesh and blood cannot possess the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable possess the imperishable”.

KJV Numbers 13:30 “And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

The idiomatic phrase “flesh and blood” is used to describe living human beings.  Notice how Jesus used this expression in Matthew 16:17.

“And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” Obviously, God is not “flesh and blood”.

Paul used the expression 4 times including 1 Corinthians 15:50.

Galatians 1:16 , “immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood: 17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia..” Here Paul is referring to humans in contrast to God.

NAU Ephesians 6:12 “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places .”

Clearly this separates supernatural forces from human powers.

KJV Hebrews 2:14 “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;”

This text tells us that Jesus participated in humanity, i.e . flesh and blood.

Do we have to cease to be human to get into the kingdom?

Using Scripture Correctly

Part 2. What About Jerusalem?

If you were to tour Jerusalem one prominent feature of the tour would be a grand lie.  I want you think about that idea and later I will explain it in detail.

Many people look to Jerusalem as the key to future events. Dispensationalists mostly look to the Jews building a temple on what is called the “temple mount”.  Some even point to the book of Ezekiel for the pattern of that temple.

Just as Dispensationalists look for the temple to be “rebuilt” in Jerusalem.  Many other people look for the Pope somehow to become the great world leader who will force people to receive the “mark of the Beast”.   Others see the “beast” as a computer in Belgium, that will be the way all people will be monitored to enforce a one-world government.

As we seek to understand Scripture we must be careful to read the text for what it is talking about and then let the Scripture explain itself.  Whenever the subject of interpreting Scripture  comes up I hear the words I grew up with. ” precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little”.

I was taught this verse as a principle for interpreting the Bible.  Sadly, it is mistranslated and taken completely out of context.  Both of these errors are so serious Continue reading Using Scripture Correctly

The Job of the Holy Spirit

Many people consider the work of the Holy Spirit to be an apostolic or New Testament doctrine.  Sadly this overlooks the wealth of material in the Hebrew Bible.A cursory search for the word Spirit in the KJV reveals slightly more usages in the OT than in the NT.

by Richard Noel

KJV  Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (Gen 1:2 KJV)

KJV  Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. (Gen 6:3 KJV)

KJV  Genesis 41:38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? (Gen 41:38 KJV)

KJV  Exodus 28:3 And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office. (Exo 28:3 KJV)

Why Some People Did Not Receive Healing? Part 2.

In part 1 we dealt with the obvious items such as unbelief.  In this section we will deal with the misuse of our tongues. It is a serious obstacle for receiving our healing.

30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.  (Mat 12:30-32 KJV)

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (Prov 18:21 KJV)

How To Receive Divine Healing

ReceiveI had been expecting a package to be delivered by UPS and wondered when it would arrive.  I went to the website of UPS.  To my surprise they said the package had been delivered some hours previously.  I went searching and found it on my front porch. I picked up the package and it was what I had ordered.   It was waiting for me to receive it by picking it up from the porch.

We often ask God for special help and blessings and then wonder why they are not present.  The problem is not with God.  It is with us and our ability to receive.  Let’s go to our first text.

by Richard Noel

NAS  John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,

The text does not say that Jesus made them God’s children.  It says He gave them the right to become

Many people go around saying that God will not accept me.  I have been too evil for Him to accept me. Our consciences have been condemning us so long that we have trouble actually believing this verse.  The Bible does not say as many as God accepted.  This is not God’s choice, it is ours.  It says (speaking of Jesus), that “as many as received Him”.

Don’t feel bad that you may have not noticed this before.  Many religious traditions have taught that we must crawl toward Jesus and if we are good enough He will receive us.  That tradition is not what the  Bible says. Like my package, God’s offer must be received by us for it to become effective.

Even Jesus’ disciples had problems with this process.  Not all of them believed the testimony of Jesus’ resurrection. One even had his own rules for receiving the message.

Do Not Give A Place to the Devil

“Do Not Give A Place to the Devil”

–Eph. 4:27

I writing to the Ephesians church, Paul wrote extensively about the differences between believers and unbelievers.  This statement comes from the middle of his discussion.

We frequently need reminded of how the Gospel really changes us from the world around us.  I would add that we often need to distinguish between the traditions we learned at home and in church and the direct teachings of Scripture.

by Richard Noel

The story is frequently told of a lady who was cooking a ham and cut the bone off before putting it in her large cooker.  Her husband asked her why she was cutting it off.  She answered, I learned that from my mother.  He then asked her mother the same question.  Mother answered,  “I learned it from my mother”.   Grandma was still available, so he asked her.  Grandma’s answer was, “My cooking pot was too small for the entire ham”.  Many of our traditions are good and useful, but that one wasn’t useful, even if it once was useful.

Other traditions can be very evil.  Pagan practices are of the devil and should be carefully evaluated.  If they in any way disagree with the Bible they must be abandoned.  Paul already had addressed many of those practices before this statement in verse 27.

Let’s look at this verse carefully, to learn how to apply it.

“do not”  is an absolute form of expression.  It gives no opportunity for an alternate or compromise meaning.  When God’s word says “do not”, we cannot compromise.  Some have thought that they could confess a murder to their priest and be forgiven.  Then they thought they could go out and murder someone else and be forgiven again and again.  The Scripture says “do not murder” just as it says “do not steal”.

“give”, but some may say,  that’s not generous.  Until we recognize that the Scripture is stating that we have authority and must not exercise it in any way contrary to God’s will.  How does this authority really work?

God’s Method is to Work through People

If God chooses to speak through people and do everything through people does He ever do anything without doing it through people?

In order to understand how God works we need to start at the beginning, to look at how God set up things on this earth at creation.

by Richard Noel

In Genesis 1:26— God’s plan was for man to be the ruler of everything on this earth.  In Genesis 1:28 — God made man the absolute ruler of everything on this earth. Imagine what it would be like if God told you that you have absolute rule over everything on this earth?  You could command animals and they would obey.  You could even command insects and they would obey your command.

In chapter three Adam submitted to his wife and the serpent (Gen 3:17).  Revelation 12:9 identifies the serpent as Satan.  In Job (Job 1:6,7) we find Satan’s claim to authority over the earth is not even questioned.

Luke 4:6 “the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.”

Thus, Adam’s authority had been delivered to the devil.

Romans 6:16: “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”

Witness Abraham and Abimelek (Gen. 20:1-17) —  God spoke directly to a heathen king that he needed to ask Abraham to pray for his healing. Abimelech had acted in integrity and God spoke to him.  Why didn’t God just heal Abimelek directly?  I will assert that Job was God’s man and when the story ends the other “comforters” are told to have Job pray for them (Job 42:7,8).

Even when God was going to destroy this wicked earth with a flood, He used a man (NOAH) to preserve the human race by following God’s instructions.

This story is for our benefit to understand how God works.  God promised Abraham that He would bless those who blessed Abraham and curse those who cursed Abraham.  Proverbs tells us that the curse causeless will not come to rest.  Not only that, but God promised to send the curses back on those who cursed Abraham.

What is a Real Rebuke?

Sons of EliLessons from Eli

I was puzzled with a question: did Eli rebuke his sons or not? A comment in my Bible says he did, but 1 Sam 3:13 he did not (NAS “For I have told him that I am about to judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves and he did not rebuke them.” 1Sa 3:13 NAS).

If he was not rebuking them then what was he doing when he said, “23 Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.  24 Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD’S people to transgress. 25 If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.” (1Sa 2:23-25 KJV)

Does God Want Us Healed?

Because Divine Healing has such a controversial past, we will focus on what the Bible teaches directly.  We will not attack any others who have differing opinions.  Our study is not about opinions, it is about what God has already said and promised all believers.

We firmly hold to the Word of God as our rule of faith and practice. “The goal of our teaching is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith”. –1  Tim. 1:5.

by Richard Noel

Our purpose is to help train believers in experiencing and using the authority and power given them in Jesus for the healing and saving of people.

Our first question to solve is: Does Jesus want everyone healed?

KJV  Luke 9:1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.

KJV  Luke 10:1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.

8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: 9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto [upon] you.  [two requirements for healing: 1) enter the city, and 2)”they receive you”.] 10 But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say, 11 Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. (Luk 10:10-11 KJV)

17 So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children. (Gen 20:17 KJV)

20 And the LORD hearkened to Hezekiah, and healed the people. (2Ch 30:20 KJV)

KJV  Isaiah 6:10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed. (Isa 6:10 KJV)

4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (Isa 53:4-5 KJV)
