“Heal me, O LORD, and I SHALL BE HEALED; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise” (Jeremiah 17:14).
The Bible tells us that everything should be confirmed by two or three witnesses before it can be established. In this series of lessons, we want to emphasize that we have more than two or three witnesses for our belief in divine healing. “…In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established” (II Corinthians 13:1; see also Matthew 18:16). In this study, we have used more verses than necessary for confirmation.
Ye Shall Know the Truth
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).
We need to understand the truth about healing before we can enjoy it’s full benefits. Tradition claims God doesn’t heal today, but the Truth confirms He does. The traditional way replaces miracle healing with doctors; but the Truth declares, “He sent His word and healed them…” (Psalm 107:20). There are people who claim that the Lord wants them to be sick to bring Him glory according to John 9:3. They say the Lord sent them to the hospital to have an operation so they could witness to a doctor or nurse. They argue that God wants them to suffer for His sake, yet at the same time are taking pain medication. They quickly remind us that it is not always God’s will to heal, yet they rush to the doctor or hospital without praying to see if it is God’s will or not. They get very upset when someone comes against their traditional training and manmade beliefs. Even those who believe it is God’s will to heal have fallen into confusion when their “Masters” were hospitalized because of major health problems or they died.
Traditions have a very strong hold on people. So much so that they may even resist the Word of God in favor of their traditional upbringing. Some denominations have bound their people to tradition to the extent that the Word of God is ineffective. Jesus told us in Mark 7:9, “…Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.“
People who resist the truth often wrest the Scriptures unto their own destruction (II Peter 3:16). God’s Word will never change or submit to anyone’s authority, therefore, in order to deliver people from traditional bondage, we must use the Biblical method to do so. Only those with an honest heart will understand God’s great healing power for today. Jesus spoke of those who accept the truth as having an honest heart. “But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience” (Luke 8:15).
Does God Mean What He Says?
The big question that we have subconsciously entertained is, “Does God mean what He says in the Word?” This question was asked years ago in the Garden of Eden by the devil to disarm the child of God and destroy his faith. If the devil can succeed in making you believe God doesn’t mean what He says, He can remove the Word out of your heart (see Luke 8:12-14) and replace it with the traditions of men. “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices” (II Corinthians 2:11).
“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11).
“…let God be true, but every man a liar” (Romans 3:4).
“… thy word is truth” (John 17:17).
“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth…” (John 16:13).
Sickness Is a Bondage
Since we studied that the knowledge of the truth is capable of making us free, we can be set free from sickness and disease by acknowledging the truth. Notice the expression, “loosed” (set free), in the two following scriptures.
“And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God …And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?” (Luke 13:11-13, 16)
“And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain” (Mark 7:35).
This study is to help you see yourself healed. Keep your desired miracle before your eyes at all times. “Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes” (I Samuel 12:16). As you study this lesson, keep in mind those with an honest heart receive the Word of Truth in their hearts.
